For first offence or contravention of the law
For prolonged contravention
For contravention beyond one year

For first offence or contravention of the law

Anyone who fails to comply with or contravenes any of the provisions of this Act, or the rules made or orders or directions issued under it, shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to five years with a fine which may extend to one lakh rupees, or with both. For each such failure or contravention of the provisions of the Act, shall, the above punishment shall be meted.

For prolonged contravention

In the case where failure or contravention of the provisions continues, an additional fine which may extend to five thousand rupees for every day during which such failure or contravention continues. This is aside from the conviction for the first such failure or contravention.

For contravention beyond one year

If the failure or contravention referred to in Section 15.1 (above) continues beyond a period of one year after the date of conviction, the offender shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to seven years.
