The Environment (Protection) Act came into force in the whole of India on 19th November, 1986 vide Notification No. G.S.R. 1198(E) dated 12-11-86 published in the Gazette of India No. 525 dated 12-11-86.

In exercise of the powers conferred by the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 (29 of 1986), the Central Government constituted an authority for the purpose of maintaining the ecology in the state of Tamil Nadu. This authority was empowered to ensure the protection of the ecology through prevention of certain activities as well as to make arrangements for compensations as the case may be.

ECO-MARKS SCHEME
This scheme was introduced by the Government for the labeling of environment friendly products (household and other consumer products) which meet certain environmental standards along with the quality requirements of the Indian Standards for that product.

ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION RULES
Below are notifications showing the various amendments and new rules made as part of the Environment Protection Rules and Rules related to the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986
The Central Government is empowered by the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 (29 of 1986) to appoint or recognize laboratories as environmental laboratories for the purpose of carrying out the functions under this Act, and further more, may also appoint individuals as Government Analysts to carry out the functions entrusted to such persons under the Act.
The table below lists out various notifications issued for this purpose.
In exercise of the powers conferred by the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 (29 of 1986), the Central Government is empowered to make rules relating to the regulation and control of noise producing and generating sources, with the object of preventing noise pollution’s deleterious effects on human beings.
Note: Aside from the ones listed here, there are several other notifications under the EP Act and its Rules and notifications which were not available to us. Just the notification number and date are provided in the tables below. However, these will not be clickable as there are no notifications to be downloaded. References to these notifications were in found in available gazette notifications. We are not sure if these are available, what they contain or whether they are even accurate but since they are mentioned in official gazette notifications, we think it would be useful to mention these and try looking for them!
The notifications issued specifically on noise pollution are contained as a separate set of rules on noise pollution or are contained in the Schedules of the EP Rules. The complete set is listed below:
Under sections 6, 8 and 25 of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 (29 of 1986), the Central Government is empowered to make rules for the regulation of ozone depleting substances for the purpose of protecting the environment.

This page contains the Schedules of the Environment (Protection) Rules, 1986. Schedules I to IV contains the standards for emission or discharge of environmental pollutant from industries, operations or processes. These have been specified by the Central Government.
Rule 3.1 of the EP Rules
Schedule II was omitted by G.S.R. 801 (E) dated 31st December, 1993. The earlier Schedule II was inserted by G.S.R. 919 (E) dated 12th September, 1988
The Environment (Protection) Rules prescribe certain procedures. This includes filing information in the forms listed below.
