The EIA notification is implemented by the Central government. Authorities are set up at the State/ UT level. Their functioning is supported by Expert Committees at the Central and State levels which are technical bodies that recommend grant of clearance. The state level Pollution Control Boards and District Magistrate’s office play a crucial role in the public consultation process.
